Introducing Bow & Arrow

After two years in the making, I am very proud to announce my new shop, Bow & Arrow. Ever since designing my sister's wedding stationery back in 2006, I fell in love with designing weddings. For the past few years, my dream has been to open my own stationery shop and now it's finally happened.

I want to send a huge thank you to my amazing husband, Brett, who helped every step of the way. From the design stages, to the photography, to designing the website and for encouraging me when I completely doubted this whole thing. He's helped me through it all and I certainly could not have done it without him. I also want to thank my family and friends who've been behind me 100%.

So to all you brides and grooms out there looking for unique wedding stationery, I'm your gal! You can view the new website here!

P.s. I'll be announcing the new blog at the end of the week...stay tuned!

2012

Every year at this time, I start searching for next years daily planner and every year I just end up buying a boring, black, ordinary planner. My search for 2012 is over. How amazing is Jessica Hische's Pocket Planner? Hopefully it won't be on back order for too much longer.

Found here.

Toto Print Company

One of my very good friends, Dave, has opened up his own printing shop right here in Brooklyn. He's one of the most talented people I know and I hope you take a few minutes to check out his work. If you're ever in need of something screen printed, he's your man. All posters seen on his site can be purchased here.

Our Wedding Invitations

With only a month to go, I think it's a good time to share our wedding invitations that we designed. Overall, wedding planning really hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be but the invitations were definitely one of the harder parts. Being a designer and designing your own invites can be pretty stressful as you want them to be absolutely perfect. We were pretty happy when we got them back from the printer and we were even happier once they were out the door.

The invitations were letterpress printed on 130# Strathmore paper by Paper Boutique.

Art School

Yesterday, Brett showed me this article he found about one of the professors that had taught at Pratt (where we went to college). After reading it, we both seemed to be instantly inspired and it brought back a lot of the great memories of our college years. It reminded us what graphic design is all about and why we're even in this field. Brett was fortunate enough to have him as a professor and it may sound silly but I think he had an impact on the work that he does today. I, on the other hand, never signed up for his class and I truly regret it. He passed away 4 years ago.

The article is about Charles Goslin, a professor who taught graphic design at Pratt for 50 years. The man is a design legend. (See the few, yet amazing examples above and you'll see what I'm talking about.) I won't go on explaining his work because I feel like I could never do it justice. Whether you are a designer or not, I highly recommend that you read this article. Either way you'll learn something.

Vintage Airmail Inspired Save the Dates

Alex and Ana came to me looking for destination themed Save the Dates since their wedding will be taking place in Mexico. We went with the airmail theme. This project was an all around group effort. Brett helped with the design and the envelope borders were screen printed by my talented friend Dave. All 250 save the dates were letterpress printed on beautiful 220lb Crane cardstock - a paper lovers dream! Congratulations to Alex & Ana!

Wink

Sadly I didn't get a chance to take any photos since I was finishing up Christmas shopping on Saturday and in a letterpress class all day on Sunday. (so fun!) I'm pretty much addicted to letterpress now. Hopefully I can share some projects with you in the future.

Since I don't have any photos to share, I thought I'd share this pretty packaging by Wink. Found via designworklife.

Friends of Type

Jessica Hische is guest blogging over at Friends of Type this week. I actually lived in Bushwick for about 6 months or so and it left a bad taste in my mouth but this Neil Young inspired poster she made makes it all better.
